I have been texting with this person and was wondering if this was a scam. Thanks for posting. I guess if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I received a call on my cell phone from this 254-300-5980 ext 71 on my cell phone. It was a recording of a lady from a company that wanted to deal with "upping" my credit money. Since I do not use credit cards nor would I ever hold on the line to give personal information out to a stranger I hung up and reported it to the Do Not Call Registry (my cell phone is also listed with them). The area code shows to be in the Waco, Texas area. I know no one in that area nor do I do any business with anyone in that area. Further more my cell phone is not used for business calls, my home landline phone is. My cell phone number is NEVER given out except to personal friends. The call on the phone only showed with the number, no business name appeared with the phone number.
I guess it's just another sign of the times with people trying to get personal information out of you to try and run a scam. It gets quite frustrating with just the calls on the home phone, now I'm getting them on my cell phone.
I got a call from a similar number (254-300-695972) on 5/13. He claimed to be "Frank Miller in California." Extremely unlikely. I'm sure it was from an international call center.
I don't think that's "ext 71", but the remainder of the phone number. American cell phones have difficulty displaying international numbers. I believe the "254" is not the area code, but the country code (Kenya). What's really interesting, though, is that the same guy called again this evening (5/16). This time the number was 905-001-368262. "90" is the country code for Turkey. How he's calling from two different countries, I don't know.
He hasn't asked for any sensitive information (e.g. credit cards). The first time he called seemed to be a wrong number (asking for Kathy; we don't have a Kathy). My cell phone has poor reception; his English is seriously lacking (definitely not American; sounds Asian); communication was not clear. Possibly a prank from a bored call center worker; possibly a scam attempt.
I get calls from 254-300-056720, and can't track it down. I do not know if the 254 is from Texas or a foreign country, and do not know what the extra two digits at the end are? I have been getting calls from strange numbers, and do not answer unless I recognize the the number. That just seems to make them call more. Has anyone gotten a call from this number, or even one similiar?
I just got called from this number - didnt answer in time, but I tried to...Funny that I was just searching a number that called 40min ago from 213-400-6320 (LA) which I also did not answer
