"The IRS is going to sue you for back taxes"  This really upset my husband - we don't owe taxes are on SS so what a way to make people terrorized by phone!

I called him back and told him I worked for the IRS and what he is doing is illegal.  He hung up on me.  I then called again and let it ring for 10-15 minutes before I hung up.  I think we should harass him.

IRS going to sue.  Scam artists using automated voice, supposed to call them back at the same number 254-449-8449.  I definitely won't be doing that.   This is a total scam.

we received a phone call stating that we were being sued by the IRS. I checked out the phone number on the Internet and saw this post so I won't be calling him back. I suppose I should call the IRS and report this?

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
