Just got off the phone with "Brad" who has heavy Indian accent. Said he was with Global PC, an affiliate with Microsoft Windows. He said that they had received reports from my computer that it had junk downloaded into it, and he was prepared to clear it for free. I could hear other voices in background. I said I wasn't going to agree to anything because I didn't know if he was telling the truth or not. So he gave this phone number for me to call while he waited. He said to tell them that Brad was waiting on the phone. I said I'd check into it, and hung up. When I Googled the phone number, well, here I am.
Called mid-afternoon; heavy far eastern or Indian accent; claimed to be from "Microsoft Systems." Did have my spouse's first name and our main telephone number (not the one we have given to the real Microsoft when we registered the computer's systems), but did not speak English well enough to realize they were speaking with me. Claimed our laptop has been infected with a malware and wanted access to the computer. Another individual, claiming to be a supervisor, said they were not from Microsoft but really worked for AFC Incorporated and were located in Alabama. I advised I would call them back and then filed a complaint with the FCC. When I did call them back another individual answered. They are all using the name of "Jeff Jackson." When I told them that the FCC investigators would be contacting them, one of the men said "[***] you" and they hung up the phone.
I got the same call, but the man was using the name Patrick Jones... which he couldn’t even spell… At first he said he was from Microsoft, though I was quick to think he was lying since I could hear screaming and loud talking in the background of others making the same exact call… He insisted that if I didn’t immediately log into my father’s computer right away and make some internal system changes then the computer would crash!!! Wow… what a freaking joke.
After about 5 minutes of me questioning him, he finally admitted he was calling from Global PC, but brushed it off as a miscommunication, which would be believable to some since there was a definant language barrier involved in the conversation, as English was his second language. I began to ask even more questions, which mostly he avoided, and he began talking really fast, and then faster until I absolutely could no longer understand not even one word he was saying… he finally gave up when I insisted he’d have to call back because my dad wasn’t home, he then attempted to talk me into allowing him to fix my computer… he insisted he didn’t want my ip and other personal info, he insisted he would only give me directions, and it would fix all my problems and issues with my computer for like basically forever… then I asked him he was selling something? And he said no… sooo, if this place calls you, beware! They probably want your credit card info and other personal information on you pc? Who knows, but I don’t want to find out.
Similar call. I was a fool and gave them access to my computer. He (Rex) showed that the computer had errors. He gave me some options about what he would charge to fix it. He left my computer with a missing start-up password. He would only take cash through Western Union to get the computer fixed. He said for $150 he would fix both of my lap-tops.
