I've been harassed by this number numerous times over the last several days. I finally answered and it is a man claiming to be from Region's Bank. He was asking for my mother. I informed him that my mother passed away 3 months ago and all our business with our local branch of Regions Bank has been updated accordingly. My mother died of cancer and she had time to get things in order before her final days, from which I am devastated and recovering emotionally. A few weeks after she died I brought her death certificate into our local branch and met with the Manager there with whom my mom has/had done all her business with for almost 10 years. All the accounts were updated to reflect her passing and me as beneficiary, etc.
This number, and a slew of other numbers all of which I have googled and have come up as Regions Bank/SCAMS, called me today and I finally answered. I have received 5-6 calls per day from Jackson MS, Atlanta GA, Knoxville TN, Charlotte NC, Huntsville AL, Dallas TX, Montgomery AL, Memphis TN and others Sometimes they leave messages asking me to call them back, identifying themselves as Regions. Today I finally answered the phone.
The pathetic loser (I can't imagine that someone actually deems this harassment as a job) was so nasty to me, insisting that until I fax a copy of my mother's death certificate to him the calls will not stop. He insisted he was from Regions Bank. I informed him that he is disgusting and pathetic and no company with any standard of customer service calls people 5-6 times a day, rarely leaving a message. My mom does not have any loans with Regions, just her checking, savings, and IRA's so this is not an attempt to collect a debt.
This is an attempt to steal an identity. I called my local branch and spoke with the Manager/Financial Advisor who helped my mom prepare for her death and has helped me cope in the aftermath. She told me that giving her the copy of my mom's death certificate was all that was needed to be done and there was no reason for anyone from a Corporate office to be calling me and demanding that I fax such personal information to them....(A death certificate has Social Security #, parents names, locations of birth places and death....all the information identity thieves need.)
