The caller left a message that I was subject to criminal prosecution if I did not respond. The caller ID said the call was from Butler, Indiana. The voice mail said his name was Alex Ferguson (he sounded Asian) and his call back number was 323-729-3051. This call is totally bogus. I am now reporting it to the "Do Not Call Registry".
Caller said the same thing except it said these was the second timed let called and failure to call the same number as above it would go to a federal magistrate. I hung up
Received call twice within a 2 hour period. Said it was from the US Department of Treasury (SCAM) and failure to respond would result is prosecution (or something similar .. forgot the exact words).
He also said his name was "ALEX FERGUSON" but his INDIAN accent was so thick that he sounded like he was calling from INDIA.
Same as the above. Threatened "enforcement action from the US Treasury". I called the call back number just to be sure. Claimed I had already been served a notice from the IRS regarding failure to pay taxes and I was subject to arrest for failure to respond to an order to appear before a US magistrate. As soon as he asked the first probing question, I asked for proof that this was a legitimate IRS call. He said he could send an officer over with the notice with 45 minutes. I asked him to do so (not believing it was real at this point). He said that they would deliver the documents AND arrest me. He asked if that's what I wanted. I said yes and we ended the call.
According to the IRS, this is becoming a massive scam with hundreds of thousands already contacted and millions of dollars defrauded from the victims. Sad story for those who have been fooled.
