Robo-voice.  Two calls today saying the IRS is in the process of suing me.  Well, I assume it was me since the robot didn't specify any names.  Do these callers really think we're that stupid?  I'll wait for the registered, formal letter, thanks.

I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with this number. they got a $200 itunes giftcard out of me and said this was going to keep me from getting arrested. After I gave them the confirmation code they insisted I had to give them more! I feel so stupid. I hope no one else gets scammed like me. I called the police after I realized what was happening.

You can now also expect many more calls trying to scam you as well.  That is how extortion works.

IRS Scam:

The IRS does not need to sue anyone.  They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office.  Several of them.  Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for.  Again delivered by the Post Office.  Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own.  If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge?  They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given.

Official IRS Government site detailing this scam and providing links to report it:

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):

I got a call all you have do is ask them questions. Don't give out any information like your name tell them that since they called you they should already know it. Ask for an identification name and number and phone number where your lawyer can call and they immediately hang up the phone. How weird?!
