NEVER GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW!
I always ask who is calling, company, and why. If they only answer "Personal business" that does not tell me anything- anyone could say that. Could be a scam, identity thieves, etc. So, if they are unwilling to identify themselves fully, the name of their company, and the specific reason for calling, then they really have NO business in calling in the first place. Anybody with legitimate business with you will readily tell you who they are, the name of their company, and the reason for their call.
The best thing is that this professional approach really seems to tick them off and they wind up hanging up on you. They cut it off, you didn't. I didn't hang up on them or refuse any information, I simply and calmly ask for name, company name, and reason for calling. If they can't give me any of that, then why would I answer a single question an anonymous caller is asking me?
