I just got a call from a smooth talker at this number at 9:01am on 6/19/17, which looked like a local call to Kalamazoo, MI (no area code present). Claimed he was "Mark Wexler from the Underwriting Department." He wanted to "renew our policy" on our 2013 automobile that has been out of warranty since 2016. Very vague and sounded legitimate ... until I pressed him on what company he was calling from ("Liberty") and why would they be extending my "policy." I'm young, but I'm worried about people like him calling my elderly friends or relatives and sounding legitimate enough to get them to fork over their money.
I believe the Michigan Secretary of State must be releasing information on our registrations and VIN codes, as these shouldn't just be floating out in the public domain for people like this to find.
And - whomever wrote hits guy's script was VERY calculating, and found just the right balance between detail and vagueness to come across as believable. He couldn't name my insurance company, nor could he give me details on my mfg. warranty ... which is where his story started to come apart.
