BBB has received complaints about continuous debt collection calls coming from a company calling itself "Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman". Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman is requesting payment for delinquent accounts and uses threats of arrest and criminal charges if the debt isn't paid. Complaints state Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman threatens legal action and, in many cases, tells consumers law enforcement has been dispatched to the consumer's home or place of employment. Consumers state they request to be removed from their call list; but the company hangs up and/or continues to call.
BBB has not been able to locate a registration with the Ohio Secretary of State for "Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman." The address provided for the company is a residential home and the mail has been returned.
Follow these helpful tips when dealing with questionable debt collectors:
-- Request written notice of the amount of money you owe and the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money;
-- Request the debt collection license number or attorney's name; and
-- File a complaint with BBB, the Federal Trade Commission, and your Attorney General's office if you have experienced calls like this.
