I answered the phone and, after a silence of several seconds, heard sort of an electrical sound. Maybe a buzz. I don't know how else to describe it. That's all: just an odd sound and nobody there and, after a few moments, the phone company notifying me the call had terminated.
Answered Call. Caller verified my name and told me she was calling about a freon rebate. Started asking me about my A/C Heating system when I stopped her.
Answered a call from this number because it looked local and we've missed a lot of important call lately from doctors and insurance. Otherwise, my SOP is to not answer and ignore. But I answered. Within 3 seconds it beeped and disconnected. I tried calling the number several times in the following 30 minutes to be confrontational, but it's a constant busy signal. I now assume it's one of those autodialers telemarketers use.
I wish all telemarketers where forced to use 800 numbers or had to identify themselves through a caller ID tag, like TeleMkr. I wish consumer technology could screen calls for phone bots before you answer. I wish selling phone lists was illegal. I wish if you are selling my number for profit, that I receive a bit of the profits being made off the practice. I wish a lot of stuff.
I'm considering changing all my outgoing msgs to an inhospitable but necessary, "If you're a real person, leave a msg or this call will be ignored."
