NOW HONESTLY, WHO FALLS FOR THESE THREATENING EMAIL MESSAGES?
Call from Houston Baptist University, supposedly verifying my email and address as I am an alumni. However, they then go into a scripted spiel saying that the "best part of my job is talking to graduates such as yourself. Do you have any advice for a current HBU student such as myself?" That is to develop a rapport with the recipient, so that they will then get a favorable response when they ask for money. I advised the student not to use his script when he calls because it's obvious he is reading it, and then I hung up.
Like BigTex, I received the same type of call, with the same script, but I actually fell for it and gave the student the advice not to take on so much student loans. Afterward she did convince me to donate money, which I did for awhile until I lost my job. Now they have relentlessly called me for about a week at all hours. So I finally blocked the number.
