Oh my Gosh, I got the same emails from the same guy you're all talking about!! I too am selling a dress on craigslist and thought things were weird from the get-go.
I feel like a fool for giving him my address.
P.S. I'm in New Hampshire. How does this guy have all this time to check out CL postings in every state on the map?!
I'm trying to sell a wedding dress too and apparently this guy has changed his name to Bill Fernandez but left his phone number the same. His daughter's name is now Amy. Perhaps he has 2 daughters =P
He also had some story about how his daughter and he are moving to Rhode Island.
Omgosh I fell for it too. I sent all my info and he stated how he wanted to be sure he didnt get ripped off like he almost did on a previous sale. He was transfered to Rhode Island with his daughter who was getting married and (im sitting here laughing as I am writing this in amazement), she works for the United States postal service and he would pay with a USPS money order and that I "can trust him" omg! he was going to have it mailed to me and include extra funds for the carrier. I then got suspicious so I said I will only accept my payment not the carriers. I also recieved his number and called him but got a machine. He said he would call me and explain the carrier fee issue. I havent heard from him yet. Cant anything be done about this guy? This is the second scam Ive gotten. The first was from a Lingo Smith so beware of her too. She wasnt as smooth as he was so I caught her quicker. I cant believe I fell for this. I feel so stupid. Oh well. I am glad I found out now. Would love to turn him in if I knew how.
Update on wedding dress scam with Bill Fernandez. I recieved a bogus check in the mail from Biotechnology Industry Organization today. It was in the amount of 3000.99. The cost of my dress was 700.00. He asked me to cash the check and give the remainder minus the 700 to the carrier picking up the dress. Really......are you kidding me? I called the company the check was drawn from and they said they are on it and are very aware of the scam. Dont cash or deposit any checks you get from this man. Shred them or do as I did and call your local police dept for help with this.
