The message was one so familiar I thought I could have repeated it verbatim, but as I try now, I can't. Something about Card Services and nothing wrong with my account, but there are options, blah, blah. Identical or similar scripts have been used for decades. I did not try to press the "to be removed" button since it caught me off guard that the call was not my wife, plus because the number they called had been forwarded to my cell, I wasn't sure if it would work.
Probably irrelevant:
The area code and exchange are the same as the number which was called. The call came not long after another, which I missed, from 657-271-1069. A post there described a similar kind of message, but it may be pure coincidence that the two similar calls came so close to each other.

Searching on other numbers, I've noticed some people seem to be making a fetish of "Spoofing" to explain everything. It's almost as if they think it's the same as "42," of Hitchhiker's fame. Because I've noticed what might be a pattern, I hesitantly suggest it might be involved here. This year, I've gotten perhaps a dozen different calls have come to three different numbers from numbers which had their same area code and exchange. None of them had been reported by anyone, previously.
I've seen spoofing mentioned with great gravitas in situations where it made no sense. In this instance, there does seem to be a possible purpose. The familiar area code and exchange suggest a potential "neighbor" (At least in the vague geographical sense that exchanges used to be assigned to fairly limited zones.) is calling, and the first few calls caught me with my guard down -- just as this one, for a slightly different reason, did.
