The caller claimed to be calling on behalf of Washington Gas.

Called and asked for me by name (said "not available", they say they'd call back.) Upon picking up there was a few seconds of noise, then the caller (with somewhat of an Indian accent) got on the line. Don't know if they are actually calling from overseas or not. Maybe they just have a crappy phone system.

This caller may be a scammer, especially given that the phone number is very likely fake (exchange code beginning in '1'). After a quick internet search, there seems to be a telemarketing scam where callers claim to be from Washington Gas, but get them to switch to a different energy company. That could easily be the case here. Since a variety of entities are likely to have my name/phone#/city, it would not be hard to pull this off if they get a hold of the right info.

But it could be a legit WG representative; I haven't confirmed whether or not for sure. If it was one, I'm not sure if this was a billing issue, or something else to do with Washington Gas. My regular WG bill is not due yet this month, but it hasn't been paid yet. Not sure if they'd be calling for that.
