DISGUSTING CALLS-AGAIN
Another unwanted telephone call. They call from am to 8:55pm EST.  Calls originate from Aspen Hills, Bethesda, Bowie MARYLAND. I wonder if ASSET ACCEPTANCE is associated with NEW A CO ?? The latter company (?) calls originate from Vancouver WASHINGTON.  I never answer these calls.
My phone is unpublished & unlisted. Who gave these #!!?# my private phone number?!? I intend to investigate + find the answer.

Years ago I had great credit and was not heavily in debt.  Unfortunate events in my life changed all that and I couldn't make my payments.  In time I was again gainfully employed and immediately sought help to clear my debt through professional counseling.  I was told my debt was beyond the statute of limitations in my State and that I should ignore the debt as my legal right.  No the debt is not "gone" as with a bankruptcy but legal action to collect is.  Those to whom I was originally indebted have written off the amount and taken full advantage of legal tax deductions accordingly.  Enter the zombie debt collector!  My biggest mistake was not responding to their initial written correspondence forbidding them to contact me in any manner except mail.  Not even that if possible-another legal right which may differ by State.  After reading hundreds of comments on websites such as this, I wouldn't trust these people enough to answer their call.  They know all the tricks & laws while we don't.  An above comment mentioned the caller was looking for a "contribution".  Once you make any payment on one of these debts the entire debt becomes collectible again regardless of what you THINK your money was going towards.  I recently received a fantastic offer for a credit card.  Buried deep in the fine print was the statement "This is an attempt to collect on a debt".  All I had to do was respond to the offer and whatever debt that company carried on me would have been included on the new credit card before I knew what happened.  I would have found out upon receiving my approval and their determined interest rate.  Talk about a trap!  In my case I'm certain the amount and rates would have been beyond my ability to pay and I would soon have found myself in court directed to pay a very highly overinflated debt without recourse.  These people are scavengers.  From what I have learned this is a multi-billion dollar industry so they are getting a lot of people to fall for their traps.  My conscience is clean.  Believe me when I say if I was assured I was paying my original debt, many thousands of dollars less than what the zombie debt collectors carry, I would gladly pay.  That possibility is long gone.  This is part 1.  My next  comment will cover what I’ve been doing and some ideas perhaps you would like to try.

Part 2.  Many have commented on such sites as this that they are on the “Do Not Call List”.  The list does not apply to deb t collectors.  Zombie debt collectors disguise themselves in many ways.  The safest way is to not identify themselves in any way.  The objective of their methods is to contact you and get a payment arrangement any way they can.  The process requires confirming your telephone number as valid and identifying you as the indebted.  Keep in mind these people are experts at what they do.  I’ve been recording dates, times, location, and any other details I can record for each call.  I research all unknown numbers on sites such as this.  I’m documenting for when I feel I have a lawsuit against them.  Plus, it’s a lot of fun.  In the meantime, I just happened to purchase the MagicJack computer telephone service-the new service where you can transfer your existing phone number to MagicJack.  It may be a coincidence but calls from one zombie debt collector stopped immediately upon ending my service with a major telephone provider.  That collector, Portfolio Recovery, and Asset Acceptance immediately began calling my work telephone.  It began with calls on weekends, holidays, and evenings only with no message recorded.  However, I did have to erase the blank message from my phone each day.  I take it as harassment stating “we know where you are and how to reach you”.  A couple of calls have come in during work hours recently.  I love caller id.  Here’s my plan.  For $20/year I can tie up my home phone number via MagicJack.  No one else gets my “old” number and these scumbags can call all they want.  I’ll just buy another number for friends.  This number will go to my bank and others which may be reported on financial matters.  This logs the scumbag contacts via email and I can respond if any financial institutions contact me.  In my case I will be retiring shortly so my work phone number doesn’t matter.  I’ll let my co-workers know to refer any personal calls to my old home number (which I’ll take wherever I go in the US).  Since I will not hide, when they locate me in writing, I’ll put in writing that they are not to contact me by any means hence forth.  Besides, what can they get from someone on Social Security?  I hope these two posts help many of you.  I’m going to post these two comments on all numbers I’ve been called by.  Read for a lawsuit let me know.
