I received numerous calls from these scammers. I finally answered, they started telling me about electric rates, I informed them they were calling a business and to remove me from their list. They started rambling that I didnt need to lecture them, they would remove me. Then he went on about the special electric rates. I stated I wasnt interested in what he was selling and to remove me. He said "oh you are are interested in what I'm selling? There were a lot of bright people in my area" and hung up. What an a@#$. They make fraudulent TeleMarketing calls for a living and calling people with real jobs talking to them like this? Get a respectable job. Oh wait, with their attitude and ethics they will never be anything more than a CRIMINAL!
Two things here about this caller and the DNC list. First, if they knew they were calling a business then the DNC list does not apply. Business numbers are not eligible for DNC protection. While you can actually register the number and it will eliminate calls from legitimate businesses that do not know the number is for a business any telemarketer selling goods or services that is calling a known business number does not have to screen against the list. Second, these alternate energy suppliers are using a loophole in the law that allows business partners and affiliates of companies that you do business with and have been provided with your contact information to call you. If this supplier is permitted to provide electricity to the company that delivers it, they can call. They grey area is whether they are allowed to call all numbers in the electric company's service area without have been first provided contact information but that would only be for residential numbers anyway.
I have an unlisted number and am on every do-not-call list I can find. I still get calls from this number and similar callers. They don't care what laws they violate b/c they don't think they'll be penalized, which so far seems accurate. When I can, as soon as I answer, I put the phone near the running garbage disposal or my speakers turned to highest volume. Maybe they'll at least spill hot coffee in their laps.
