Same call as described above. I feel angry for the naive people they manage to scam.once I googled the phone number and saw all ur posts I was so relieved.
Just got this same call. I called "Ashley Robinson" back and asked for details. The lady gave me info that I had listed all of my possessions as collateral for a loan and owed $20,000 to the loanee, but can settle now for a mere $1900. She asked me what I want to do. I said I will ignore it because they have the wrong person. She warned me that they have the right person because they do not get cases bound over to them until they are sure the info is correct. So I said, well go ahead and filed it and we will see what happens.
Ha! Obvious scam. Bring it "Ashley!"
Got a call saying the same thing as above. We forced the issue, demanded charges in writing, demanded to speak with supervisor, etc. Finally when I told them that I looked it up while talking to them and identified them as a scam...they hung up abruptly What a scam. Warn your elderly loved ones!
I called that number and asked for Ashley. She comes on the line and tells me she's with the "Criminal Investigations Division". I asked her what police department she represented and she hemmed and hawed and said she wasn't with a police department she was with the Maryland Court system. I talked to two people and they definitely did NOT have a Hindi accent . Hung up on her when she suddenly stopped answering questions and demanded a case number.
This is a serious scam; these people are going around claiming to represent some vague law enforcement entity or another. If they call you, call them down and ask for specific information as to who or what they represent. They'll back off. Then simply ignore them and block their calls.
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
