Just got same recording. No fed agency would contact a person in such manner. For something legal would be registered mail or in person some law officer with badge. I am signed up on both state and federal do-not-call lists so I know any phone solicitor is a scammer. Either play along and give fake info or insult them to the max.
I received the same call as described above. It was a recording. No specific information was provided. Since I haven't received something in writing or have any reason to be concerned with IRS issues, I immediatelly suspected it was a scam. And seeing all these comments above reinforces my suspicion. We ought to find the way to report this immediatelly to the authorities. What gov. agency would need to be made aware?
This person really scared me, he said that i had committed fraud against the IRS but not reporting all i make ( is not true since i would be scared to death to owe the IRS) and that this was the 3rd time they tries to contact me therefore the IRS has started a criminal investigation against me leading to 5 years in prison. and they make sure to tell you that you cant pay with a check, you have to deposit the money into the IRS account.
