remember debt collection ( in california ) is a civil matter not criminal. it is illegal for a debt collection company to threaten court action or criminal action against you. these pre-recorded calls saying they are going to serve a subpoena or they have a court case are false and scare tatictics. these calls should be reported to the FTC.gov site if they get enough complaints against a company the federal government will go after them. Also remember if they call your employer you can call the collector and advise them to cease calling your place of employment as you can not receive personal calls there. If they continue you must send then a certified letter advising them to cease all telephone calls to you and by law they must comply
