According to a phone conversation to a phone number I got from a postcard purporting to be from the Census Bureau, they have an office in Maryland from which they are calling folks. This 301-541-8801 seems to be it. The postcard-referred phone answerer refuses to acknowledge or deny that this is their number, but I think it is because I've been harrassed from their other two acknowledged centers (in Arizona and Indiana -- unverified numbers 520-798-4152 an 812-218-3144 respectively), as well today. Also, the person from the postcard phone number (800-354-7271) was arrogant enough to be a bureaucrat. But then, anyone at all could send a postcard addressed "To the Resident of ...." One would think that if you are really an authorized government arm like the Census Burear that you would be required by law to specifically identify yourself. In the absence of such identification, we all should be thinking SCAM and IDENTITY THEFT in order to protect ourselves.
