Being in debt is not a crime. You can't be arrested for ordinary civil debt. Only the district attorney or other public prosecutor can file criminal charges. Debt collectors have nothing to do with criminal charges. This is a common scam. Threaten you with criminal charges to collect a civil debt. Unlawful too.
Report them to your local attorney general.

Left a few messages. I called back and they said I had an outstanding payday loan from 2012 and that 3 charges were being pressed against me. Of course this made me freak out. I had to come up with 1100.00 by that day 5:00 to avoid charges against me. I talked to them some more and asked if they took the payments, they said no a 3rd party would on a secured line. I called back stating I could not pay that and asked a few more questions. He then said he would give me till next Friday to come up with 1/2 the money to be able to make a pmt arrangement. I was so confused. I called my mom in panic, got her all shook up and me shook up of course! Who wants to be a felon?! Fraud?! wth? I was so glad to read the other comments here!!!!

Phony people using scare tactics on folks who have paid their loans off months ago...Financial Litigation services shows up on bunco lists in Maryland and Virginia.
Financial Litigation services is a scam operation outside of Bowie/Bethesda, Maryland. The number is traceable, but a detective in Bethesda told me on the phone that there are at least 50 complaints from around the country for strong-armed tactics they use. In other words, they are being investigated for federal wire fraud and organized crime tactics. They will call you from 301-562-4941 and a nasal-toned Valley Girl wannabe will try and scare you into calling this number. It's a scam and once you bend in to the veiled threats, your wallet deflates by thousands.
