We received a call from this number wanting to give us discounts on our gas bill. I asked if he was with Washington Gas..his response was unable to be understood, thick accent... told him we are not interested..although he knew our address...that is a bit frightening!!!
Gas/Electric Utilities Bill Scam. Male called from following number claiming that he was representing a gas producer through Wash Gas and would lower or eliminate my gas bill for two months if I signed onto some special rate reduction plan: 2012-02-06 16:45:17 3015850752.
I asked what company he represented and he was cagey except to say he was associated with Washington Gas. He asked for my account number to sign onto the plan. I told him "Too complicated. Need to see it in writing," and hung up.
This is apparently a problem in the region with purported utility company representatives showing up at the door and requesting account information, according to an NPR report this morning. Their advice is to never give out account or personal information, and if in doubt, to call the utility or the police. Please report incidents here and to your power company.
