The Washington Gas customer database may or may not have been compromised. However, as well all know, utility deregulation now gives us a choice for natural gas suppliers. Washington Gas will still deliver and bill us but another company may be the one actually supplying the gas to the system. These calls may be coming from one of the many companies authorized as alternate gas suppliers for Wash Gas customers. They may be using overseas call centers. Since they are not actually your current gas supplier, they need your Wash Gas account number to switch you to them as your supplier. Since the don't identify themselves upfront this is a blatant slamming attempt. You will likely get locked into a long term contract that may initially reduce your bill but eventually cost more after they raise there price part way into the contract. There will also be a hefty fee to switch back. Get the name of this alternate supplier if you can and see if they are listed with Wash Gas and then check their website for all the details on their charges and plans. Do not be pressured over the phone until you have had the chance to review everything about them including any BBB complaints against them.
My wife has a similar experience. They didn't have her new last name but she felt it was suspicious. My advice for everyone is to send a message to Washington Gas and let them. We sent in a comment describing what happened via their website: https://eservice.washgas.com/forms/contacting_washington_gas.cfm?
I also received a call I just notified Washington Gas that they may have been compromised, for them to know we are customers is a major concerned. Thanks Much
Got a call again today again after a month now. It just hang-up. Who da f*ck are these people trying to fool? What do they think they can get out of by calling us. If you are listening please. "You will make more money being a homeless man out on street than making useless phone callings". You will end up in jail some where in the middle-east and made $0 out of this. You POS.
scam - same as all other comments - wanting account number for washington gas - said i didnt have it handy - they said oh we can wait while you get it - i hung up - hate the fact they have my name and address.. now they continuously call me around lunch time - i dont answer
Same thing is happening here. Folks, please email Washington Gas with these incidents so they can at least look into and assure their customers that their information on file is safe. If not, they should take action. Phone calls are okay, but email= documentation.I just sent my message to them today.
