we got the same message as everyone else, robo voice even sounds like legitimate IRS voice on legitimate IRS phone number, but the threat of legal action rang false, when I called back just to see who would answer, a recording said it could not accept my call. I feel for people who may be elderly, and are duped by these low lifes!!!
Caller leaves a robo-message asking you to return a call to the IRS immediately. When you call, they have you on caller ID and can identify your address. The person tells you you are being notified of a criminal investigation by the IRS. Then they tell you not to call anymore. When you say "What!? I don't understand!" they ask if you understand English, then say not to call back; you will be investigated. When you call back they don't answer the phone several times, Then when they answer, they become belligerent.
Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
As soon as I heard them say it's the IRS I hung up the phone. If the IRS wants to communicate something to you they will always send a letter for documentation purposes.
