It's gotten to the point where we DON'T answer the phone more than we DO. If the regular phone was not part of a bundled package deal via Cox communications, with Internet and TV, we'd probably cancel. It's not worth the hassle these days. Anyone who I really want to speak with calls my cell phone.
TIP: By the way, I figured out how to keep your cell phone private. Get a Vonage phone number (or through anyone else' I believe some are free) and use THAT number to give to business people, etc., who you need to hear from, like the auto repair shop that you are waiting to hear from re when you car is finished, etc. Then have that phone number set to "Forward" to your cell phone number. Then when you don't want anyone to bother you from that number, just turn off the Forwarding, and voila! Silence! It works great and it keeps your cell phone from getting on a billion lists.
