I, too, answered the call since it was from my area (301) but no name showed up. Normally, I do not answer Unknowns, out of the area, no names, etc., but I did this one. The man at the end claimed to be affiliated with the Police Association wanting donations of some kind. Checked with the local police, they don't use solicitors to seek funds for anything. I told the man that I was on the Do Not Call List and to take me off. He said he would. Was surprised that he didn't try to pull a fast one and state that he is exempt from the DNCL callers. Almost everyone of them are scammers. Last time someone tried to pull that on me, I asked for their business EIN number (like a social security number) so I could check them out. Naturally, as expected, they hung up. Try to get as much information from the caller and notify your local police station or the FBI and report them. Just looking at the other people who wrote about this number substantiates what I said -- they are scammers.
Came in again last night on my unpublished line as "Out of area," even though I live in 301. I answered, and after a bit some guy came on line, addressed me by name and said he represented the Fraternal Order of Police. I said "No!" loudly and hung up. Friends, if the Caller ID is a lie, so is everything else. Worse, the FOP is using lists of unpublished numbers that are supposed to be available to the police only for emergency purposes. A con artist is a con artist, whether he's hiding behind a badge or not. Don't fall for this one.
Calls at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning! Did not leave a message on voice mail, but it is either a telemarketer for cancer fundraiser or the Fraternal Order of Police. By the way, they do use different numbers when call, but the first 301 937 are the same.
