Rcvd automatic message that shows coming from 202-622-5000 (an IRS number in DC).  Message states that there are "three federal allegations which are under presumption on your name."  Gave the number 301-979-9611 to call back to "avoid any further enforcement action."  I know that the IRS doesn't call people but works only through snail mail.  The 301 number reverses to a cell phone in MD.  Did not return the call.

I actually called # and got person w/ indian accent and didn't say name of company so i inquired that when you call a company, they are supposed to let the customer know what the name of the company is.  he refused to give me the name and only wanted my home phone #. i asked for supervisor and he said he was the supervisor and hung up on me.  i called directly back and got another person with an indian accent that said this--------is---------the---------internal---------------revenue----------------------services.  i asked to speak to someone in this country that is his supervisor.  he then said that he was the supervisor.  i told him i had just spoken with someone else who said he was the supervisor.  i again asked for a name and # i could call back directly and the told me the go "f" myself!

Phone message started with 9799611 from the IRS enforcement bureau. Please contact immediately to halt enforcement. Contact 301 979-9611. I called and was told by Fed ID AL0224 -Jason Smith with a Middle Eastern  accent that there was a Warrant issued on behalf of the IRS for my arrest.  He gave me the ID # and Case#. He said I could take care of this through Western Union, money gram or a credit card. He ask how I wanted to take care of it. I said I would get with Law Enforcement in my area and speak with them. He said he could no longer assist me. He hung up on me. What nerve. I wasn't done yet with my questions.

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Phone-Scams-C ... 5-Filing-Season

Canadian tax payers should read this:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2013/l131210-eng.html

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This scam is also described as scam #11, here:
