Atty John Larson called regarding a payday loan that I DO owe from 2009. He told me to get a prepaid (green dot) visa and call him with the card number. The loan was taken out in MS. I live in AL now, but this guy is calling from Delaware...is this legit? I'm scared because he told me I could spend 11 months in prison.

The caller is a LIAR and a THIEF!!! It is illegal to make threats. You will NOT be arrested - even if you did owe. debt is a civil case, not criminal. The green dot payment is a major RED FLAG - same as cash & not traceable.. I even doubt he is an actual attorney (also a violation). IGNORE this scammer.
It looks like the original debt was sold to a bottom feeder for pennies on the dollar.
This man named Joe Larson who claims to be an attorney in Delaware just called me from phone number (302)754-1694 and said I have 2 pending charges from a payday loan in 2010 that will be sent to my local courthouse if I do not send him $1000.00 by 11:00am today. He stated that these 2 charges are felony charges and could carry 11 months in prison if not paid. I live in TX what are the laws against this in TX?
I just had the same phone call as the above. I looked this persons name up in the Delaware State Bar attorney search and its not found. I reported this number and the call to the local police department and they said that they can not threaten nor will you be charged. Please get the word out about these scams!
