No, they are not allowed to threaten you like that. The disregard they show for federal debt collection law is one big, red, waving flag (along with the "complaint against your SSN" carp) that they're scammers. Best thing to do is block their number(s).
These people are collectors under the guise they state you may have a complaint against you and your social security number and to call them with the intent of what you want to do. They threaten a courier will deliver the complaint in 24 hrs if they don't hear from you. This is the number they left and they also give you a reference number and they do mention the last 4 digits of your social security #. A woman named Diane Ramos says she represents Dade County (I live in Miami) and leaves the threatening message. I called them because they have been calling daily for a week and it turns out the acct. Is closed and handled over 10 years ago.. Be cautious.
Not debt collectors - scammers. There is no such thing as a complaint against your social security number. Report these losers to the FTC and your state's Attorney General.
Just and update. They now called me and told me they are going after my car and they gave me the VIN #. Are these people allowed to threaten you like that? They are nuts.
