Mike McC.  Sugar land, TX.
Worst Male voiced robot caller, I have ever heard, from 305-728-8649 originating in Miami, Florida called at 9:07am CST on Oct. 03, 2016, and left the following, 19 second long voice mail, on my cell phone.

"IRS. (almost inaudible, then a pause)  The nature and the purpose of this call is to inform you that you have received legal petition notice concerning a tax fraud against you, so before this matter goes to the Federal Claims Courthouse, or before you get arrested, please call immediately   (then becomes inaudible and the message abruptly ends).”

First clue this is a scam:  The IRS would send an official governmental letter and not a telephone call.  They have to keep records of all personal contacts, i.e. via the US Postal Service.
Second clue this is a scam: This letter would originate from the district you live in.   Example: Persons residing in Texas would not be contacted by a California IRS office; it would be the IRS office in Austin.
Third clue this is a scam:  The immediacy or urgency of the call: “…please call immediately..”.   These scammers do not want you to have time to think.  High pressure and intimidation are what they want to get YOUR MONEY AWAY FROM YOU!  Stop and think.
Fourth clue this is a scam:  The IRS would recommend that you obtain advice from your tax attorney or accountant, and they would notify you of what information they require from you so that you can prepare your case prior to meeting with the IRS in person.   This is not done over the phone.

Unfortunately many senior citizens fall for this scam every day, with these scammers stealing their life savings away.

It is time for the U.S. laws to be changed.    First offence of this type of scam: “The Firing Squad.”

They called and left a voice mail saying they were with the IRS.  A legal petition notice concerning tax fraud against me.  IRS isn't going to call anyone.

It is a scam.

The IRS does not initiate contact via a phone call, they first send postal letters.
The IRS does not threaten arrest.
The IRS does not demand immediate payment over the phone.
The IRS does not ask for Credit card, Debit card, or prepaid money card information, at all.

It is a scam ran by offshore criminals attempting to trick you into sending them money.
