Same recorded message and case number saying charges will be filed against my social security number. I don't owe any debt that I am not already paying, and I have not defaulted on a payday loan. This "law firm" has refused to provide its mailing address or any indentifying information. I searched bar associations in the various states the first few times I received a call. No records.
I have finally stopped answering unknown numbers on my cell phone as these people call me from a different state every week with the same information. I was supposed to be served back in September for the first time. 25 phone calls later from at least 12 different states, and I am still waiting . . .
Please don't pay these people anything without documentation! I have been able to obtain nothing, including a simple mailing address.
Dont let these clowns fool you. They are collection agencies who often (but not always) call themselves 'Firms' in order to sound like a legit law firm. They collect on payday loans and often use tactics such as this in order to scare you into paying up. I worked briefly for one of these companies so I know all the tricks that they use.
First off, if they say 'charges have been filed against you', then call their bluff and ask them if they are a law enforcement agency or with the State Attorney's Office. Predictably they will say 'No' so then common sense will tell you no charges have been filed. Just asking them multiple questions concerning the validity of what they say will usually cause them to get irritated and they will end up hanging up on you in frustration...
..BUT....Right before they do hang up they get one last jab in at you to scare you by saying something along the lines of 'good luck' or 'you will be process' or 'served', etc,etc,..the real sleazy ones will even say that a warrant will be put out for you..
