Do these people think that we are stupid? No government affiliate uses the word cops. They say local law enforcement. If you've actually got an opportunity to speak to these dip [***]. Give them a hard time have fun with it. They will get pissed and cuss you but it's fun. 1 you will never get an out of state number calling you about a local matter. 2 they say you have 24 business hours to respond, that's funny. Just mess with them and get them nice and pissed. Maybe they will give up. I've had one call and hang up on me because I called them on their bs.
The sad part is many of their victims are unaware of the truth about what they are being scammed about. Scammers will 'stick' to what works for them, even if it does seem far fetched. Just simply "sounding" plausible is enough to send some people into a panic and they fall for the scam. Your "advice" on having fun is great for people who understand its a scam, but not advisable for those who might become victimized by talking to a scammer who is very convincing.
