My husband was a police officer for Omaha Police Dept. and now is a Police Chief of a small town in NE Nebraska. When I told him who had called, he said it is a scam. They never gave any money to his officer, Jason "Tye" Pratt when he was killed on duty. My husband was his Sergeant. Don't give them any money. You would just be throwing it away.
Multiple calls from 308-217-4600. Sometimes the phone is dead, other times you can hear a bullpin operation, and the caller is extremely rude. If this organization is the best the Nebraska Police Officers Assn can find to solicit then they will never ever receive a donation from me.
I get calls from this number several times a day. I don't answer because now I recognize it. I'm glad I found this information so I know who this is. That area code is from the area where I grew up.
Has called our business line twice a week for the past month, always a hang-up even though it is answered on the second ring. Thanks for the do-not-call info.
This is a Solicitation company who said they were calling ON BEHALF of the NPOA. I was told they were calling for donations to the fund for Officers killed while in the line of duty. They are calling out of N/E Nebraska.
I asked the followng questions:
1. Are you a police officer. Answer was no, he was calling on behalf of the officers who are too busy to call.
2. I asked if he was paid for his calls. He said yes.
3. I asked what percentage of the donation went to the Fund and what went to overhead. He at first side stepped the question with a question and I asked him to answer my question. He said he had no idea what percentage went to the fund but that it did cost money to make the call.
He was cocky, arrogant, and spoke in circles...very confidently I might add.
In the 1990's I sold a home for a man who owned one of these types of businesses and he said that only about 25% of the money solicited actually REACHES the fund because solicitation overhead is so high.
My recommendation...go direct to your local organization and make a donation direct to someone who represents the Fund you want to donate to.
Alaso, do not blame your local officers...they are not the ones making the calls.
Mike
I asked to be taken off of the list but I am sure that won't happen.
