At 9:52 am on Friday, June 3, 2016, this number called my cell phone and left the following message: "Hi, this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin, and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by US treasury intending you're serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense my number is 310 363-7613. I repeat 310 363-7613. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you." This was a recorded message, made by a male speaker with a foreign accent, possibly Indian. The message was repeated three times. Then after a pause, a female voice said "Good bye."
The caller ID simply said "California." This is a fairly well know fraud attempt. There are numerous web sites telling about it. Here's what the Better Business Bureau has to say: http://www.bbb.org/canton/news-events/news-re ... ury-phone-scam/ The best advice is simply to not respond or give any information. I'm blocking this number. No doubt there will be others as this is not the first time this scam has been attempted with me.
You hit the nail on the head - they are not in the U.S. - the feds have no jurisdiction out of the U.S. They use spoofed telephone numbers. And you can enter a complaint with the Treasuring Inspector General Admin office at https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml
OH NOOO I AM INTENTIONALLY GOING TO JAIL!!! LOL...received a call from Steve Martin! Above comments are the same, but the number he called from is 310-363-7791. It was a recording " "Hi, this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin, and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by US treasury intending you're serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense my number is 310 363-7791. I repeat 310 363-7791. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you." This was a recorded message, made by a male speaker with a foreign accent, possibly Indian and just about understandable! The message was repeated three times. Then after a pause, a female voice said "Good bye."
