Did not recognize - Shows caller from Santa Monica, CA - did not answer. No message left. Called twice. Checked internet and verified number is Scam/Telemarketer. Also shows up as Mira Loma/Riverside area BLOCKED number.
Telemarketers typically use dialing programs loaded on computers to make their calls. The computer will probably generate several calls at once. The first person to pick up their phone usually gets connected to the telemarketer. That is why you get dead air if you don’t pick up your phone on the first ring.
It takes a couple seconds for the computer to connect the telemarketer to the consumer. And that is what gives these idiots away.
I keep saying hello until connected. Their dialing system always makes a beep or generates a connect tone when the call is finally connected. They usually ask for me by my first/last or middle/last name. I ALWAYS ask them to repeat the name and firmly tell them they “GOT THE WRONG NUMBER.”
If they opine they are contractors looking for remodeling work or if they are solar companies looking to put solar panels on my house I always tell them “I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT.”
I immediately hang up. I try not to engage them any longer than necessary.
Finally, one scammer said they had legal papers they were going to serve on me if I didn’t pay a $576 past due bill of some kind. I asked this idiot if he knew the time of my birth. When he said he did not, I told him “I was born at 9:25 at night but NOT LAST NIGHT and to go ‘F’ himself. He said he would camp outside my home until I went outside for some reason and he would serve me with the papers. My response was that “Anyone found hanging around my house at night will definitely be found HANGING AROUND IN THE MORNING.” He got the message and terminated the call.
Used my Mrs Shellhammer voice, think Miracle on 34th Street, Hellooooo. Lady came on after a bit, and I tried again. Lady hung up. Too bad, I was hoping to string her along a bit. They areally not staying on long enough to play games with.
on my cell phone: Received call from polite guy saying we had spoken last year and he was calling back to see if I was ready to have a contractor come to my house for the bid. I explained that I am married to a contractor and would, therefore, never ask a contractor I don't know, from a company I've never heard of, come to my house to bid on something that my husband contractor will do for free on the "honey do" list. I politely asked for my number to be removed and he said "sure" and hung up. I blocked the number.
