Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from 310-634-6111. The caller ID said Rockville, MD. The caller, a self assured sounding man with some kind of spanish accent told me he was "Special Agent Manuel Castillo" with the DEA. He said he was calling me about an ongoing investigation into an online pharmacy and he had information I had purchased hydrocodone in 2007. He said he needed me to "answer some questions for him". I said, "Sir, first of all I have no idea what you are talking about and I am not going to just believe you are a DEA agent because you say you are.". He got mad and said, basially I KNEW I had made the order and basically I had to talk to him because he was from the DEA. I was freaked out but I stood my ground. I said, "Sir, I'd be happy to talk to you when I verify you are an actual DEA Agent". I just kept repeating that every time he said anything. He finally relented and hung up and let me call him back. When I called twice, the number kept coming up as a call center for an home alarm system and their number was totally different which confused me. That's when I called the DEA office in my area and discovered this is a SCAM where they try to shake you down for money for fines, etc.. I've read where people have actually sent money. I know from experience in my job and my husband's job how the DEA works, they send out a field agent from the local office and I knew I did nothing wrong. I've now read many accounts of similar stories online. I've read they call multiple times. If they call me again, I'll be so ready.
