I bought something on-line through Wal-Mart. Had to give contact info, including phone. Two days later, I get a text message saying the purchase had "won" me a $1,000 Wal-Mart gift certificate, and gave a link to claim it. I clicked on the link, and had to give e-mail and phone info again. Next screen said I needed to sign up for a couple of their "free" offers (magazines, etc). I realized it was a marketing scam, and closed out...not buying anything. Too late! They already had my cell number, and I've been receiving telemarketing calls on my CELL every day since!
Do NOT provide your cell number when buying on-line at Wal-Mart. If you must do so, do NOT fall for the scam text message you will get soon afterwards, which says you've won a Wal-Mart gift certificate! I don't know if these guys are associated with Wal-Mart, or whether they've hacked into WM's database....but either way...you've been warned!
If you try to call this mumber back, it says the person's voicemail is not set up. I bought something else at Wal-Mart on-line a week or two later.....and got the same text AGAIN, two days later! Agggghhhhh!
