I got the text message. The best defense is to block these offensive numbers with your cell carrier and report the calls/texts to your carrier. Has it ever occurred to anybody that these scammers are plucking our numbers from the "Do Not Call" lists as a resource for their data bases? They change their own numbers often enough that it is virtually imposible to catch up with them. Enforcement isn't viable because they can't be tracked fast enough.
Text message received at 4:22am Nov25.2012 : Attn:Reward Zone Member You have WON A $1000 BEST BUY GIFT CARD! Go to http://bestbuybfpromo.com/3/?2 and enter code 8228 to claim!
Received a text message from this number telling me to go to http://bestbuybfpromo.com/3/?2 at 12:009 pm Nov 27. Told to enter code 8228, to claim my prize of a $1000 gift card. Dont know who this is and would not ever give out personal information.
Got a text (12:21am) from an out-of-state number that I didn't "know" or recognize.
(Does this mean that they are involved in Interstate Fraud?)
They, of course, left me paying for the message.
As always, I looked up the number here.
I am on the National Do-Not-Call List, and have been for over a year now.
(I guess this is our government at work for us.)
I'm going to
http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
AND to
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx
and see if that can get the government to work for me, and stop these calls.
(Yes I will go through all those steps.) [I have also bookmarked these URL's.]
We should all pile on.
