ID themselves as 800 Zero Debt. Not debt collectors. No -- they are a "mediation" firm. Right.
Sounds like one of those “do nothing about your debt after we take your money” type debt re-organization/resolution firms. Good places to stay away from.
Do not sign up with these kinds of firms! Many of these groups have a history of taking your money and doing nothing. Sometimes for years at a time.
Note that besides a sign-up fee, they also charge a “maintenance fee” . This, while they are sitting on your other fees and doing nothing.
Many of these groups promise to “get rid” of all your debts. But of course there’s no way any one person can do this. What is the real possibility that all of a person’s creditors would agree to settle a debt or series of debts? Very unlikely.
And there’s something else: These people call themselves a “mediation” firm. The term “mediation” is well-known as scammer double talk for debt collector.
If the creditor and debtor cannot agree to discharge a debt, then the only real discharge of debts is going to happen in a formal bankruptcy proceeding.
Seems to me they are going around cold-calling people they think might be
1. Ignorant of their rights and
2. In serious financial stress.
