Received same call 8/23/15. Didn't answer because of unfamiliar calling number. The message left was the same as some listed here - $25,000 winnings in a contest from some time back, blah, blah, blah. I was suspicious from the git go so never called them back.
call from Broadvoice 312.277.0166, called 8/31 and left message to call back regarding a $25,000 sweepstakes we had entered "sometime earlier this year". "and Congratulations".
Here's the recording these crooks left on my machine:
"Hi this is Peter with the Award Notification Department. We're calling to verify the inquiry that was submitted sometime back within the last year for the twenty five thousand dollar give away. We have very good news for you. What you need to do as soon as possible is give us a call toll free here at 1-855-841-6089. Again that's toll free 1-855-841-6089. Call soon and congratulations."
I have no idea what these scammers want, but trust me: They are bad news. I blocked the number, reported the violation to the Do Not Call List, the state and federal attorneys general office and I'll write my Congressman yet another letter. We need new, enforceable telecommunications laws or our telephones will become completely useless.
