I have received almost a dozen calls from them (and four other numbers they are using 815-566-3404, 713-766-9571, 312-428-9480, 202-369-7887); always the same noisy call center, always operators with very think middle eastern accents. I finally got one them to give me a mailing address, apparently a PO Box at a FedEx office in Chicago, IL (200 W Jackson Blvd, Chicago IL 60606). I couldn't get the number because the caller had a very thick accent which was explained later. He wanted to confirm that I was sending payment to the address, and I told him no it would be a court summons. Which he laughed and told me to save my time because he and the rest of the callers were in Iraq and immune to the telemarketing laws.
My guess is that this is an overseas scam routing through a hacked exchange server in the United States to make their calls look like they are coming from inside the country. Any mailing addresses they give are likely set to forward to a single mail drop.
As you are at work, talk to your boss to see if they record incoming calls. It's also very important that it's legal in your State, even though you are talking to criminals. When they call, begin every conversation with "This call is being recorded". It's that, or transfer the call to the company lawyers.
They can't give you any proof because there IS no proof. Which, by the way - you should only accept MAIL - not email or fax.
Per Alfalfa (regular poster):
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
they started calling my cell phone a few months back and i told them they had the wrong number...now they started calling my work place today over 20 times with in 20-30 min. the person identified himself as bob and he was calling from chicago..he had a heavy indian accent....and i could hear multiple people in the background....he threaten and harrased saying that if i didnt pay i would go to jail, i would get sued. we work in a health establishment and he was clogging our phone lines. at one point there was 3 lines at the same time asking for me and threating. we called the non emergency number and filed a report since the harrassment was severe. SCAM SCAM SCAM
They call several times demanding to talk to a particular employee or the manager, when I answered as manager they demanded that a message given to the employee, when push about if it was a personal call or business call they got aggravated and started threatening to harass our business until the employee calls.
They called our office yesterday over 20 times... The same guy called today and called one of the employees a [***] bc she said they had the wrong number, he called right back... So I answered and said the pledge of allegiance..... And said this is America. He called right back and I said the pledge again. Since then he didn't call again we will tomorrow or Monday. But we will song the star spangle banner this time. Maybe rehearse our bill of rights... They harrass us well they won't get anything from us so they should stop calling I hope, and it's still bob farmers calling for an employee saying she owes money and will go to jail, guess what buddy we know your a scam bc it's illegal to make calls like that in America! So done with this guy!
