I have contacted the FCC and suggested that caller id information be generated only from the service provider (versus end user equipment as can be done today)with billing information being encoded into each and every call. This would reduce spoofing (since billing information is subject to more scrutiny versus current caller id protocols) and result in the ability to pursue harassment, fraud, and communications act violations.

ANI is different, conceptually and technically, than caller ID service. A caller's telephone number and line type are captured by ANI service even if caller ID blocking is activated. The destination telephone company switching office can relay the originating telephone number to ANI delivery services subscribers. Toll-free subscribers and large companies normally have access to ANI, either instantly via installed equipment, or from a monthly billing statement. Residential subscribers can obtain access to ANI information through third party companies that charge for the service.[4]

This call has a Chicago area code. Chicago is a vipers nest of scam operations. Robo scammers could be traced if our politicians would require phone companies to give the actual source on the CID or require NO-MO-ROBO blocker filters on all calls. MY cpr blocker blocks all my identified area codes in the chicago area. One ring and they are gone.
