I got a call from a guy calling about my subscription to the Chicago Tribune ( I am not a subscriber, and I live in Florida) then he said something about my visa, and said you're on auto renewal, right?
I told him 'no' and he hung up right away. Not sure what he was trying to do...but doubt anything about it was legit. Sounded like a scam trying to happen.

I am and have long been a subscriber to the Tribune. Their marketing people seem to be a bunch of Neanderthals, and they're not doing the Trib any favors with their heavy-handed, undisciplined sales tactics. My phone service lets me do several things with callers -- add them to my contact list, e.g. -- but also, block any future calls. I use that all the time, much more effective than the national don't call list.
Pretty sure this name/number is NOT the actual Tribune and is being spoofed. (the actual number for the newspaper for the last couple of decades has been either 1-800-Tribune or 312-222-xxxx....). SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!! Do NOT give out any info, and don't bother to explain anything to them or ask them not to call, because I doubt this is really the Trib and therefore, they don't care. They're just trying to get a credit card number from you.
Got a call and didn't pick up. I am a chicagotribune subscriber and paid up to date. I called back and it was auto answered with 'Marketing Resource for vendors that use us for cable , newspaper, phone subscription'. I am paid up to date, so have no idea why they would be calling. Probably scam.
