Same experience: I recently got a Texas Sales Tax permit. The very same day this information apparently went public, I started receiving many calls from various companies offering credit card services. You will likely experience the same thing if you just got a Sales Tax Permit in Texas. It may go on for few days.
I quit answering my phone and did a caller search on all the phone numbers, including this one. Then I called them all back, told them I was already set up for my business, that my brother in law worked for the State Attorney General, I did not need their service, did not want their sales pitch, and if they called me back again I would report them to the Attorney General. That ended the calls and they moved on to prey upon other new victims.
Some of these calls may be from legitimate businesses. As for their Business Name, physical address, and Better Business Bureau reference. If they are legitimate, they will give you this info. If not, they will likely hang up.
Since obtaining a Texas tax id, I have been getting numerous calls of places trying to sell me a credit card machine. He kept asking questions such as if I owned a card machine (which I lied and said I did) and asked how much I was paying for it (which is not his business anyway). When he asked for my name, I asked him "Are you aware that I am on the Do Not Call list?" which prompted a "Thank you" and hangup from him. I have just reported the number and the given company name (which probably isn't correct) to Do Not Call.
This is all because the wonderful libtards in government provide unrestricted access to the information of people/businesses applying for a tax permit to telemarketers or anyone WITHOUT our consent. These scumbags had full access to my social security number, my address and all of my contact information. 37 robocalls in 2 days so far.
I am very angry - also signed up for a TX state sales tax ID number, and have received many many calls from telemarketers about a credit card machine. So stupid.
Calling from a very loud boiler room, with a very strong Indian accent.
"Can I speak to the owner of the business?"
"Do you have the name of the person you're looking for?"
"Hello, can I speak to the owner of the business?"
"I'm sorry but I can't transfer you without a name. But I have an e-mail address where you can send any information."
"Okay."
"[email]"
"Okay. I'll call back later."
