I've asked Feeding America to stop calling me.... EIGHT times! I looked up their 'charitable' info at charitynavigator.org/index and found they donate about 5% of the $30 M they take in and that rates them 3 stars! To call them a non-profit is a joke.
I have called the phone companies and FCC and they say that they can do nothing about this 'Charitiable scam'(my words, not there's). It's really sickening to think of the naive people being bilked of money in this time of recession(or any time, actually). Simple folk are being scammed....the only advice is to alert others to this scam. There is apparenently no way to stop them, and also,we don't know where some of this info is going...because if they have a usable phone number,it doesn't take a genius to get other info off of the internet. Privacy and space gets 'hacked' once again.
I received a call from this number also. They said they were with bank of america and had a 1 to 3 athing donation going. I started to probe for social engineering and he confirmed it, though he tried to backup and recover, his mood changed quite a bit. Be careful of this sort of thing, pray for these people and know all things will be brought to light and judged by the light. May we love more then they thirst and greed.
Lets change this land of ours.
God bless
Feeding America (you can Google it) spends 98.5% of feeding hungry people (in America), 1.5% goes for everything else... I highly recommend them as a charity but I suggest if you want to give go direct to their web site and do so there... Every dollar you give buys a meal for 10 people... In the Tampa Bay Area they buy food stuffs from manufacturers and retailers that are close to their expiration dates and volunteers pick up the food and take it to a local warehouse where it is distributed, again by volunteers to local food banks at missions and religious meeting places, again by volunteers...also from time to time some generous donors will match your donation... Tony Robbins recently gave $41 for every dollar donated... so your donation would make available 10 meals... Tony Robbins would add enough , through his donation to provide 410 more or 420 meals... locally they purchase bakery products, produce, dairy etc. oddly the manufacturers and retailers are not as eager to discount an canned goods nearly as drasticly so... if you are so inclined, I am sure your local chapter would be pleased to receive any canned goods you may care to give...I am retired and on a fixed income and had someone match my donation dollar for dollar last year and together we provided over 17,000 meals for hungry Americans (last year they were able to do 11 meals per dollar) as opposed to a local mission that I was donating almost $2 per meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas (they also happen to get food thru Feeding America) so now I channel my giving through Feeding America and I am able to benfit thousands instead of hundreds... by all means investigate before you donate/invest/etc. but you'll find the rating service gives Feeding America a rating of four out of four stars...God Bless
