Whoever it was said they were calling as a courtesy to telling me they were filing with the DA multiple charges against me. I have no outstanding debts or anything remotely criminal in my background so it's obviously some sort of fake collection scam.
I got a call as well. First from an unknown caller telling me to call this attorneys number and gave me a case number saying they would explain everything. Finally got through and woman told me charges were fraud with intent... blah blah for a debt?! I asked for dates or year this charge happening. She read some legal jargon stuff that made it sound like a warrant would be sworn out for my arrest in 24hrs where the police would take me to jail. Again, for a debt?! I've had a warrant for medical bill before-civil processor calls you of just stops by and you sign you received it. There is a court date on it and you go to court, explain to judge situation and make arrangements to make payments on the debt. In that case, it was a mistake on the insurance co and I didn't go to court. Anyway - I was asking this lady questions and she told me she needed to put me on hold-an attorney was calling.... I sat on hold 5 min and finally hung up.
Got a call today stating I was being pursued and charged with fraud, grand larsony and theft blah blah ... told me also there will be a warrant filed on my behalf for the debt with Kay Jewelers. I asked for documentation in writing and she denied. Told me the entire amount (3x amount owed) was to be paid in full. Once I stated that I couldn't pay it at THIS time ... she told me the client wanted it in full no installments, then said I sound really sincere in repaying and told me I can just pay half during the phone call and she doesn't need to verify with client but why not if they're requesting full amount??? Sounds scammy to me! She's out to get what she can from victims of debts.
