Received a $1,950.00 check via Priority Mail from Excell Ferrell @ 1901 Lafayette Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27408 with this phone contact number.  He was purchasing an item from me on Craigslist, said he made the check out for too much and wanted me to send the remaining funds to him via Western Union.....so he could have a mover pick up the item.

Check was from University Federal Credit Union in Austin, TX - we verified there was no such check number from them and did not have a member by the name of Excell Ferrell.

Beware of the scams.

I have actually had this happen to me at my work location under the guise of a company. We ran the check verified it was live attempted to reach the check writer and realized through the convoluted stream of emails that they were the perpetuators of the scam. Here is what I would do just to do it.  Go to your nearest check cashing service location preferably one you've never been to before and see if they will cash that check. Only do this if they require no information from you personally during this transaction.  You never know, you may hit pay dirt and end up with $2000 in your pocket. The intent behind this type of scam is to have you deposit the check into your account and then wire money out of your account. Next thing you know you have no money in your account. This is actually one of the oldest scams out there. It has recently made a reoccurrence because it has been a dead scam for quite a while now it is fresh and available again for people to use so they do it. One of the most interesting things you will probably ever learn is that most Internet scams actually originate from the United States Europe and the Netherlands the top three. And the scam will be disguised as if it work originating out of a foreign country, typically Nigeria because they are purported to be the biggest perpetuator's of scams when in reality they are not. They do certainly play a role but again the United States England and the Netherlands guise their scams under a foreign country's name. If I were you hold onto that check in any communication that you have received because what you were holding in your hands right now could be a key that an investigation department needs in order to track who is actually stealing money from a legitimate organization. Keep the envelope keep everything. The check we received, was sent via federal express. How stupid is that? Talk about being able to literally track this check step-by-step by step might as well just show up to the FBI and hand yourself over!

What-A-Shame
I got a text from this number (312-899-6014) that stated he (?) was interested in purchasing an item I had posted on Craigslist less than 30 minutes prior.  I sold some items on Craigslist successfully in the last few months, but there are a lot more (3 to 1) scammers responding to my posted items than people who actually check out. It is very sad that a wonderful site like craigslist has become a place where con-men are able to regularly practice their trade.

Thank goodness there are sites like this one that help us fight back!!
