Said they were the account manager for a magazine we subscribe to. Hung up after I ask what they wanted.
Beware everyone. There is a new scam going on. Appears someone has hacked into old information from a magazine subscription service we use to order from. Caller said our current credit card no longer did business with them and got hostile and threatened to turn us in to a collection agency when we refused to give them a different card number. The subscription was from a magazine we haven't received for several years. We asked to talk to their accounting department, they could not transfer us (some lame excuse). They gave us a number to call. We called that number and the lady said she wasn't aware any problem with our current card and wanted that card number because she could not see our account on her computer, (the accomplice). We did not give it to her either and hung up.
Googled the caller numbers, it's a scam. A lot of people out there have been taken for big bucks by this ploy.
I'm sure there are legitimate subscription services out there, but after that close call, I'll never order magizines over the phone again. Publishers Clearing House, I'm coming home.
