This is a threatening phone call telling me that I will be arrested in 2 hours if I don't call back to talk to a federal agent, blah blah blah. The one I received today was more aggressive than the one I received yesterday, but the phone number was the same. Usually they keep changing it so you can't track them. I know these people are scam a**holes, but some poor people might think it's real and be frightened, even if they haven't done anything. Catch them and string 'em up.
"Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. Now, this is the final attempt to reach you. To know your case number and to speak to a federal agent call back on 315-207-4680. Thank you." [This was left on my answering machine. Woman's voice, worded exactly this way.]
Exactly the same robo-message here. Another IRS scam. NEVER CALL BACK.
PSA: The U.S. Treasury and IRS will NEVER contact you by phone. If you haven't received a letter from them, it's a scam. If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS workers can help you with a payment issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to believe that you do, report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 1.800.366.4484 or at www.tigta.gov.
