Woman called claiming they are with some kind of energy savings discount program. She had my name and address, then wanted me to verify my account # on National Grid. Told woman I was leery about giving that info out. I then asked for a phone # to call her back at and she hung up. Scam!

Got this call a while ago too, didn't answer tho. They CAN save you $$, ..... because they're out of state and don't have to charge you for the NYS sales tax (8%). That's all a lot of them do. Then, they put power for your usage into the grid just like all the other suppliers do. Some will however, actually guarantee, In Writing, your bill will be lower, and if the cost go over your current carriers rates, they will only charge you the lower rate. SOME of these companies are legit and can help us out. Many though, are just "jumping on the bandwagon" to make a fast $, and then they're gone!, With your $, leaving you in the lurch.
If you do want to change your carrier to get better rates, Do-The-Legwork-yourself, first! Google the companies, check them out carefully, talk to other people who have made a good change, and make a GOOD, informed decision, .... for yourself! Don't get pressured into making a spur-of-the-moment, bad decision just because SOMEone, on the other end of YOUR phone, said YOU have to do this NOW. Just hang up on them. End of problem. Then you can hit that big red button that says, "That Was Easy!".
If someone called and told you to put all your money and valuables in a bag and give it to the guy standing on your sidewalk, .... would you? NO! Of Course NOT!! Just because a stranger Tells you to do something does NOT mean you HAVE to obey them. (If you would, ... I'll be right over. lol) It's the same for all the Tele-Scammer phone calls we all keep getting.
Remember, It's YOUR phone, NOT theirs. YOU pay the bill for it, NOT them. YOU have the right to hangup on ANYone You want to. You do NOT HAVE to be courteous or polite to them either. THEY are the ones Bothering YOU. You do NOT OWE them ANYTHING, not the time of day, or even a "Good Bye!", ... just "click ..... dial tone". When you get the same # showing up on your CID again, just let it ring, ... or pick it up and IMMEDIATELY hang it up again. Don't say anything at all. Just go on with whatever you were doing, ... and hit that big red button, again.
